Fantasy Soccer Keeps My Kids Connected and Happy
- rory 6y agoFantasy sports are a great way to foster/maintain adult long-distance friendships too. I find standard fantasy pretty boring, but it can become a very interesting strategy game with a two tweaks: 1. Teams carry a significant number of "keeper" slots each offseason (maybe 1/3-1/2 of total roster size). 2. EVERYTHING is tradeable-- players, picks, FAB, keeper slots... everything. Together these conditions allow teams to play with different strategies and on different time horizons, opening up a lot of innovative wheeling and dealing.
- HenryBemis 6y agoPerhaps this is something different, but I remember watching John Oliver - Last Week Tonight some years back and he kinda presented it as a gateway to gambling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq785nJ0FXQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq785nJ0FXQ And a video (fake) ad with some nice comedians: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq785nJ0FXQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq785nJ0FXQ
- originalvichy 6y agoWell, yeah, it is gambling if my friends and I form a league with a buy-in of 50 bucks. But nothing or no one really forces you to get into a money league. There are gambling sites enabling this money league playing but the underlying game is not gambling.
- phasnox 6y agoJohn Oliver is a master in presenting stuff in a deceitful manner so it serves his narrative. There is some luck involved of course, but like poker, you need skill to have a constant success.
- roadbeats 6y agoThis article sounds almost like an advertise to me for some reason. May be I'm biased though, in my household there is no TV or ipads, and my son is strictly not allowed to any of these gadgets. Here is a really good research on children attention; https://github.com/azer/notebook/blob/master/parenting/children_attention.pdf https://github.com/azer/notebook/blob/master/parenting/child... There is also a podcast episode about it in the same folder.
