Trillions for Oil, Millions for EVs: The Big Lie of Ineffectual Government
- tim333 6y agoThe usual BS about trillions in subsidies to oil when its the other way round - governments tax oil. If you have a $30 tax and a $10 rebate that's a $20 tax not a $10 subsidy. On and on. This stuff's important folks! The deal with fossil fuels is they are undertaxed for their externalities. $100 carbon tax now!
- Proven 6y agoClimatist junk. I followed some links and on page 12 of one such report saw that in 2016 renewable subsidies were 15% of fossil fuel subsidies ($1 Bn vs $8 Bn) while generating only a tiny fraction of total energy. Let's talk about the real thieves and parasites, shall we? - shmooth 6y agoThat was a great article. I read it wondering if I'd learn anything when I think I know most of 'it' already. I was ready to pounce at the end when he said government largesse can "topple dictatorships" -- but then he followed up with the opposite case. :-D I do like the idea that the government and industry (and sometimes even people) are 'just' picking winners/losers - it's a helpful way to look at things - really, the correct way, imo. I'm not necessarily crazy about putting a price on externalities and combining it with the cost of subsidies/taxes/etc. -- just because it seems to potentially dilute/confuse the argument -- but point taken.
