English may not be your first language? I think you have perhaps unintentionally said something extremely offensive.
Trans women are women. Trans women were born men, but they are not pretending.
- Minor49er 6y agoYou accuse the other poster of not understanding English, then say that trans women are not men pretending to be women. Yet "pretend" means "to give a false appearance of being, possessing, or performing." You even said yourself that they were born men. They can't change their gender so they pretend, sometimes even going to extreme and dangerous lengths to do so.
- Pfhreak 6y agoTrans women are "assigned male at birth", ie, the adults around them make a decision about their gender and assign 'male'. Trans women are not "performing being women", and frankly the suggestion that they are is unacceptable. Trans women are women, full stop.
- Minor49er 6y agoIf it's the decision of adults, then when do they assign babies their X chromosomes? You still haven't explained what it is that makes it possible for a man to turn into a woman. I don't think anyone believes that Rachel Dolezal is a black women, even though she pretends that she is. Is that somehow different?
- blitz_skull 6y agoNo, English is my first language. Last I checked with the science, you’re born either male or female. If you’ve got a mental disease that makes you feel like you “should” be a different gender, how does that magically make you ACTUALLY that gender? I also don’t understand how this is offensive. It’s pretty much biology 101.
- Pfhreak 6y agoYou have, at best, a high school level understanding of biology. The current scientific and medical consensus absolutely supports the idea of gender as a more complex system then which parts you have. Everything you've said in the above comment is incorrect. First, you are not born male or female. There are many, many physical presentations that we loosely bucket and assign babies into. Second, sex organs don't determine gender. Gender is a social construct. Third, being trans is not a mental disease. The medical community has moved beyond that definition a long time ago. Body dysphoria is also not present in all trans people. I know you are speaking from a place of ignorance, but "biology 101" is an extremely surface level understanding of biology but even introductory biology describes the concept of sex characteristics being not being binary. And most introductory biology books will say nothing about gender at all, because it's not a biological concept. So, your comment is offensive because it claims to be speaking from a place of knowledge -- using biology or science as some sort of evidence of your correctness -- when in fact the opposite is true. You would know this if you were actually interested in learning about the science, biology, and sociology. So the only explanations I have are either you have a woefully outdated understanding of science, or you are being deliberately transphobic.
- blitz_skull 6y ago“Consensus” implies most agree on a given topic, whereas “narrative” means what’s currently being pushed as an agenda. I think you meant to say the latter, because any medical professional who cares about the well-being of their patients agrees that transgenderism is a mental illness to be treated, not a new breakthrough in human psychology. Pretty sure doctors still adjust medication dosages based on if you’re a male or female. You still develop different bone structure and muscle density based on your biological sex that you inherently have at birth. Again your terminology here is incorrect. You say “assigned” but that implies that doctors are walking around with a penis stamp or vagina stamp handing out whatever they feel like to babies, which would be laughable if it wasn’t so dangerous to actually believe. I’d be more than willing to consider your viewpoint if you could provide scientific, peer-reviewed sources that support your claims, but thus far your arrogance and emotional beliefs about a topic you clearly know nothing about are evident.
