I remember taking the "How to make a mirror in the Build engine" tutorial many many moons ago. Also fun, if you wanted to create a shadow cast onto the walls you'd just create the 3D geometry for the shadow and paint it darker. Also also fun: building in the 3D engine involved walking around in 3D, drawing bounding boxes, and using page up / page down to change the height.
