It's amazing to me, and my long-gone 18 year old activist self, that vocally supporting Freedom to Read week in 2021 would get me branded a right-wing bigot (if anybody cared to brand me at all, which they wouldn't.) It's a depressingly common pattern for an oppressed group which begins to break its chains to be co-opted and weaponized by people who are more interested in revenge than justice and equality.
