I think St. Thomas Aquinas was right in believing that some matters of personal sin are left to the individual. But once you enlist the assistance of a doctor or anyone else, that is certainly no longer the case. It would be wrong to impose "immediate painless death" on me because it is against God's law. It is wrong to kill yourself because it is also against God's law.
- depaya 6y agoThen YOU don't do it. Don't force your opinion of "God's Law" on others.
- throwaway8581 6y agoThat’s what all laws are. You take some moral idea founded ultimately on some unprovable axiom, and then you impose it on others through violence. Whoever is able to repeatedly and reliably deploy violence to impose their religion (which doesn’t need to have a god) gets to rule society.
