What does this mean for Linux on CPU architectures that are either tier 2, tier 3, or not at all supported by the Rust project?
- steveklabnik 6y agoRust will be relegated to drivers for the foreseeable future, and so they won't be affected, given that new drivers wouldn't be written in Rust for platforms that don't support Rust. In the future, who knows. Some folks are working on a GCC Rust implementation, that may be the path forward, or more LLVM backends may happen... only time will tell.
- mlindner 6y agoToo much attention is put on if something is tier 2 or tier 3. It doesn't actually say that much about if you can use Rust on the platform or not.
