I’m a novelist (Wall Street Journal best seller, Edgar and Thriller Award finalist, etc.)
I also work with OpenAI in helping developers find creative applications for the GPT-3 (I helped write a number of the prompts for using GPT-3 you see in the documentation.)
While GPT-3 is one just one step and limited by the token size as to what it can grok, I’m convinced the deep learning approach will eventually lead to technology that will surpass the human ability to tell stories.
Will AI-generated stories have true depth? I don’t know. Will you be able to tell the difference between a human and an AI story without any other context? I doubt it.
Instead of seeing AI as a threat to me as a writer, I see it as an opportunity to tell bigger, more interactive stories in ways we can’t imagine. It would be a creativity amplifier.

Go has a similar story. StarCraft is still in the centaur phase IIRC. It's probably just a mater of time, until the writer programs are good enough. (As an intermediate step, actions movies don't look too difficult...)
