Linus Torvalds on how AMD and Intel are changing how CPU interrupts are handled

- rurban 6y agoIt's extremely worrying that the linux kernel people still have no idea about modern ukernels, and still hinge on the long fixed issue of massive IPC overhead from the old mach days. I mean, there are even two good ukernels now with l4 and fuchsia, and they learned nothing from it. Modern ukernels don't guarantee delivery, there are no mailbox queues with its massive overheads. They are async by default. Fuchsia not entirely, but l4 is clean.
- rurban 6y agoThe original subject is preferred: "x86 - why unite when you can fragment?" They tried to fix the broken interrupt model differently. Entirely new code needed - INTEL. Just add a legacy flag - AMD. Both are fine, but both must be supported. Apparently they don't talk to each other, as seen elsewhere also.
