- Animats 6y ago"Model Railroading is Fun!" Hamburg has Minatur Wunderland, the world's largest model railroad.[1] [1] https://youtu.be/R669l5CA1YA https://youtu.be/R669l5CA1YA
- joering2 6y agoThe amount of sexualization is staggering and come to think this is mostly a venue to visit with children; obviously this could not be built in USA. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R669l5CA1YA&t=168s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R669l5CA1YA&t=168s
- drsim 6y agoFunny, I've visited and never even noticed those scenes. The displays are massive, you cannot see everything. The amount of sexualization, as you put it, is tiny, fun, playful, and a reflection of European values.
- spoonjim 6y agoI mean I’m not that much of a prude but I think a blowjob out in public is a bit much for a family attraction.
- kwhitefoot 6y agoI just watched the video and I wonder if you can actually get close enough to see for certain that it was one. After all the figures are quite small.
- richardesigns 6y agoNude sunbathing etc has been a feature of model railways for as long as I can remember. All goes over you head until your 15 anyway. The adults chuckle knowingly and quietly, you don’t have to draw your children’s attention to it if you don’t want to. And anyway, she’s probably just ‘kissing it better’ lol.
- richardesigns 6y agoActually yea it is a bit much. Wow. And I ‘am’ European.
- kwhitefoot 6y agoStaggering? Those figures are a less than two centimetres long in a set occupying 1500 square metres with a quarter of a million figures. Unless someone points them out how many people will ever notice? And anyway what harm would it do if a child did notice?
- FalconSensei 6y agoalso, if a child see those small miniatures from far away. Will they actually recognize it and know what it is, unless an adult (or teenager) tells them?
- Ericson2314 6y ago> "The solid form of the zinc alloy before it is molten and then cast to create the train chassis." Nice over-correction you got there, NYT.
- euroderf 6y agoBack in the 80s some article was wondering what's up with model railroaders, spending SO much time building their own elaborate worlds to lord over. But then after games like Civilization hit the market, and consumed gazillions of player-hours, funny I didn't see that criticism again.
- richardesigns 6y agoI am so keen to visit this attraction. Pecorama was just the tiniest bit of a disappointment!
- gdubs 6y agoMy dad’s uncle had an enormous model railroad in his basement. He used to let us go down there and he’d turn them all on for us. We’d spend the entire family gathering just staring at the set. If you’re in the Bay Area, Los Altos has a yearly model railroad event by the history museum. Don’t know if they’ll do it this year, but it’s indoor/outdoor and a fun thing to go (and for kids as well).
