No more climate change guilt
- forgotmypw17 6y agoNot the best headline, but I think it's a great app idea. As much as we'd like it to be true, we've seen that we can't rely on large entities to make necessary changes without making changes in our own behavior. It's a huge challenge to change individual behavior. Some say it's insurmountable, but I think time will show that it can be done.
- hjek 6y ago> Not the best headline, but I think it's a great app idea. I agree. It's not the guilt that's the problem, it's the catastrophic climate change.
- smt88 6y agoI feel exactly the opposite. These micro-optimizations at the individual level are never going to make a dent. Our time, energy, and money would be better spent on political organizing. The change has to be institutional and systemic. See deeper discussion of this concept below: - https://www.theguardian.com/environment/true-north/2017/jul/17/neoliberalism-has-conned-us-into-fighting-climate-change-as-individuals https://www.theguardian.com/environment/true-north/2017/jul/... - https://www.thedailybeast.com/why-your-carbon-footprint-is-meaningless https://www.thedailybeast.com/why-your-carbon-footprint-is-m...
- TheGrkIntrprtr 6y agoWhy not focus on developing emissions removal technology instead of trying to convince people & companies to reduce emissions? Frankly I don't think political organizing on an international scale will make a dent either, in a reasonable time frame.
- forgotmypw17 6y agoI think we need to try every iteration of every possible solution, not just the one we think will be the most effective, because everything we've tried so far has failed.
- forgotmypw17 6y agoThe problem with institutional and systemic change is that it is affected by those who are in charge of those institutions, who are easily steered.
