A Walking Tour of 1866 New York: In the footsteps of 150-year-old guides (2016)
- jhbadger 6y agoNot quite this old, but I enjoy reading (and trying to visit the sights that remain) the 1930s/1940s guidebooks published by the Federal Writer's Project (FWP) a US agency during the New Deal that provided employment to unemployed authors and journalists. As they were uncopyrighted works of the US government, they are available in various physical and electronic formats today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Guide_Series https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Guide_Series
- OldManAndTheCpp 6y agoThank you for this, it’s a wonderful thing and I likely never would have found it without your link. My sister and I are planning a road trip, the only thing it needs is a theme. Surely we can find one in the guides.
