What usually flies between 45 and 60k feet? Anything cool?
- pridkett 6y agoCommercial airliners are usually below this altitude, it’s the upper end from private jets. A G6 has a max altitude of 51,000ft. They routinely cruise around 49,000ft.
- redis_mlc 6y ago60k is the highest controlled US civil airspace. So what they're saying is that aircraft are flying from 45k feet to beyond 60k feet. The SR-71 is the only airplane that regularly flew above 60k feet (85k feet cruise.) Previously the X-15 made many flights to above any significant atmosphere, then used rocket thrusters for control.
