I was thinking about a desalination method using gravity pressure to drive reverse osmosis. Turns out people had proposed it back in 1974. Still, it's quite interesting, and it would be really cool if someone could get it to work. You'd basically get fresh water for free (minus capital costs, which would be a bit more than a conventional reverse osmosis plant).
