I am very opposed to the removal of the compact density option. I adjust to compact on all of my computing devices because any screen real-estate recaptured for content without the loss of functionality is a good thing. On any device with a mouse, the compact layout is easy enough for me to target. As others have said here, I would opt for even more compact if it were an option.
