Real life application for this exercise (I use a python version from time to time):
Count the frequency of words in a book, then get the most frequent words you don't know in Anki, so you can learn the words that will help you understand more of the text.
This is of course taken from the Fluent Forever book.

- machiaweliczny 6y agoI have python script that takes on the book, does what you said and translates everything also. Very helpful, with this + list od 2K most popular words learned english in 2 books when in middle school.

This one is for parsing Kindle clippings but it's quite similar (except no sorting of all words, I was usually using some service for mobi to txt switch before feeding script). I should probably clean it up and switch implementation to english (but don't use it anymore).
