Both gold and silver had ~2x swings in the last two years (https://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=XAG&to=USD https://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=XAG&to=USD, https://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=XAU&to=USD https://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=XAU&to=USD). Not exactly "flat".
