China has a word for laughing at western society about all this. Baizuo.
- atlasunshrugged 6y ago"Baizuo is a Chinese neologism and political epithet used to refer to Western leftist ideologies primarily espoused by white people." Any Chinese person or Sinophile who can give some more depth to what this means?
- devmunchies 6y agofirst result on google images gave me this: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EZzv5O6UYAA4cb6.jpg https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EZzv5O6UYAA4cb6.jpg (I'm not Chinese nor do i speak it)
- kmeisthax 6y agoThe quip about "importing backwards Islamic values for the sake of multiculturalism" sounds like this word was coined specifically as a put-down to people who think Uighurs shouldn't be put into death camps.
- Daho0n 6y agoThat is extremely fitting though. Spot on.
- masteruvpuppetz 6y agoWhy the hell bring Islam into it?
- gher-shyu3i 6y agoIgnorance. Had they actually applied those "backward Islamic values", they'd be much more advanced. See: Islamic Golden Age.
- mam2 6y agowe have a huge debate about it in france right now, it's called "islamo-leftist". https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamo-gauchisme https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamo-gauchisme basically they accuse some left people to have been (too) tolerant with muslim people in the name of multiculturalism, leading to being laxist toward ideologies and cultural practices (such as islamic preachers in some mosques) that lead to / encourage to terrorism (a lot of the terror attacks we had came from people visiting the same mosques..). it's not completely unfounded if you know some french left-wing poiticians
- thatcat 6y agoSounds like equivalent of "libtard"
- xiphias2 6y agoTo me it sounds like the new liberalism couldn't be farther from the classical libertarian / liberal values, that's why it's sad when that word is used.
- stormqloud 6y agoThe reversal of what words mean is a big sign things are messed up. Soon we go full on Freedom is slavery We already are full on Ignorance is strength.
- thatcat 6y agoagreed, libtard/baizuo are typically anti-liberal control freaks who have undermined the classical liberal base by giving conservatives something they can (incorrectly) associate with liberalism and make simple jokes about.
- monstersinF 6y agoUndermined? They seem to have taken full control.

- bitxbitxbitcoin 6y agoFrom what I understand, Baizuo means something along the lines of “why bother doing it?” It is used to describe anything where efforts are proven or likely to be proven futile, not just in relation to politics. Here is an example, if my parents saw me trying to boil a pot of water with a candle, they would refer to that action as baizuo. This is my experience as a Taiwanese so it may be different in China.
- yorwba 6y agoIt's 白左 (white left) not 白做 (done for naught)
- someperson 6y agoEnglish speakers have invented plenty of derogatory epithets for people who expose extreme political correctness: libtard, SJW (Social Justice Warrior), woke etc. There's probably many more, but I don't really follow that world closely.

It's pretty interesting that a foreign culture would coin a term for something like that, though. I wonder if this is term that's mainly used by international students.
