- ggm 6y agoThe forcing function difference to deep sea living is extreme. All the underwater hab/lab things tanked (hah) because the capital to benefit (there is no ROI on making people live under the sea) is zero, and you can fix things in the time to decompress people to normal athmosphere (so walking off the gig is trival). Mars, its a one-way burden. Stuff something up? its a mars injection orbit time to send the fix, or make the fix, or die trying. That aside, and disliking the source, I wouldn't personally fault the logic. I think Musk is selling a dream to achieve other more prosaic outcomes: dominance of heavy lift to LEO is worth so much more to his net worth.

He's probably going to be the first private citizen to have control over who or what goes to Mars. He once said that he wanted to be buried in Mars. He now has the money and the company that can make that happen. 10 years ago that would have been thought as crazy. Amazing...
