I'm against UBI largely because my understanding of human nature (which could be wrong) suggests it won't work, but will take 1-2 generations for its failure to manifest. I have a lot of empathy for others. Enough so that I'm unwilling to back polocies that I expect will cause more overall suffering in the long term.
