Ask HN: What is the best office chair?
I'm looking for a chair that's <$300, ergonomic, and comfortable for long periods of time. Prior upgrades to my ergonomic setup have led me to eschew chairs with arm rests. So it needs to at least have removable arm rests. I'm 6'2 and 175 lbs if that makes a difference in terms of your recommendations. Thanks in advance!
- buffaloo 6y agoMy theory is change one out every 2-3 years so you’re always sitting on relatively new foam. Like runners replace their shoes before they get really worn out for the cushion.
- rawtxapp 6y agoYou can find used Herman Miller Aeron chairs for around 300-500$ price range, one of the best chairs imo. The arm rest is relatively easy to remove.
- ironmagma 6y agoBeware, these chairs come in multiple "configurations," some having adjustable backs etc. and others not.
- cfjgvjh 6y agoI'll also mention Steelcase Leap as an alternative. Depending on the location, it might not have as much of premium in the used market as the Aeron. (I believe you can remove the armrests, but I haven't personally tried.) Both are very solid chairs, though it really should be sat on to see if it's a good fit.
