Shoes with a PU sole are likely to disintegrate after 10 years due to hydrolysis
- WheelsAtLarge 6y agoInteresting, recently I wanted to wear a pair of new shoes (at the time) that had been stored in my closet for years. As soon as I put them on, the sole started to fall apart. Up to that time I thought they would last forever since I didn't expect to ware them very often. Now I know why they fell apart.
- throwawaysea 6y agoI’m not sure if PU is the same exact material as the “bonded leather” we see on low/mid-grade furniture but I’ve noticed that anything made with these artificial composite “leather” materials end up disintegrating over time. There really should be a cost to the externalities of such fragile products.
