Compulsory moral bioenhancement should be covert (2019)
- salawat 6y ago...Well. I couldn't get past the abstract without being overcome by the realization that this person seems to have issues with the idea of informed consent and especially with concepts of personal liberty. Part of liberty is the capacity to say no even when everyone around you thinks the answer is yes. Yes, I understand this will put me in an unpopular position in current times, and no, I'm mot an anti-vaxxer, which, speaking of which, is one of the few forms of "moral bioenhancement" we engage in. It is not okay to do anything to anyone without their fully informed consent. No amount of public health interest justifies it, and even if that leads to that person's death, that is that person's choice. I cut allowances for children to have decisions made by caregivers, but no further. The interests of personal liberty are too important to allow to be handled in a slipshod fashion, even if we don't like what other people do with it. Especially when it seems like the best idea.
