> Michael Powell, a social worker who lives in rural Maine, says he’d rather drive a compact car, but he has PTSD from a former car crash: He drives a truck, he says, “because everyone else in my town does, and it’s the only way I can get around without feeling like I’m gonna die.”
I live in Maine and can sympathize. There are many, many trucks on the streets here, and our drivers are very, very bad. I walk more than 3 hours a day to get to school and back (I don't own a car, partially for ethical reasons and partially because I can't afford one) and I am aware that if one driver skips a red - especially a truck - I won't be making the same trip the next day. I could probably survive getting hit by a car at a low speed but if I get hit by a truck they'll find a molar of mine in Utah.
