I dont know what to think about that article. On one hand, the OP could work 2 hours a day and earn a 6-figure salary, giving him freedom.
And this freedom wasn't enough to "take care of my children, enjoy my marriage", so it would be better to trade that freedom for a 8h-a-day job so you ... can... take care of your children, and .. "Hint: It's not about $"?
I really don't get the point AT ALL.
- ryanmarsh 6y agoSeems like a weird flex. I’ve bootstrapped a few profitable businesses and the last place I want to be is a sweat shop like Amazon. If I’m going to grind as hard (or harder) than I did to get what I’ve got I want my share of the rewards.
- jackconsidine 6y agoWas wondering the same thing- what is the moral that we read this post for? Why would someone who was successful starting companies go work for Amazon? "Commitment", but what does that mean and why is that an end in and of itself
- jchook 6y agoSounds like Amazon wrote this article
- tacitusarc 6y agoSounds like an AI wrote it
- metalliqaz 6y agoit's unsaid but I think what he is talking about is stability. a stable, predictable salary is much better for a young family than alternating periods of windfall and uncertainty. he used the word 'commitment' and that's what I took from it
- robinhood 6y agoThis is probably what the OP meant. But that reinforces even more the fact that it's all about the $, contrary to what the title says, and more precisely a stable income. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, we all work for the money at the end of the day. It's just clumsy.
- lvice 6y agoMe neither, I don't understand at all the point the author is trying to make. His arguments seem to point exactly in the opposite direction to the decision to take the job at Amazon.
- lallysingh 6y agoI think the 2-hours-a-day assumption is at the crux of this. Is that all he had to do? Or did he work 16-20 hours a day? And what does the AMZN position, income, and benefits package look like?
- tarboreus 6y agoYes, this is either not thought all the way through, or not articulated. There's a key motivator or element here that author doesn't discuss.
- SirFatty 6y agoJob stability, benefits.
