Toast Sandwich
- owlninja 6y agoI have nothing significant to add but a link to this being posted in 2013 that had a funny comment. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6829993 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6829993 This is perhaps the single most potent piece of evidence that HN's glory days are all in the past. Oh well, it was a good run.

- coolgeek 6y agohmmm... that person seemed to be a frequent commenter until May 1, 2019. I hope that he/she is alright, and that they simply succumbed to fatigue from the inevitable ennui and despair
- aaron695 6y agoI read it as the not valid cookery section, but it seems it's for the infirmed. Service for a Invalid "To make Toast Sandwiches toast a very thin slice of bread and put it between two thin slices of bread, spread with butter and a very little marmite" (1938) - https://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-502488403/view?sectionId=nla.obj-530706934&partId=nla.obj-502616436#page/n28/mode/1up https://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-502488403/view?sectionId=nla.obj-... Do you butter both sides?
- Garvey 6y agoI did when I tried it out of curiousity, surprisingly alright with a bit of salt, no marmite for me though.
- ehershey 6y agoToo much bread.
- bigprovolone 6y agolooks like someone screwed up a club sandwich
- moonka 6y agoWow, the best part to me is: In November 2011, the toast sandwich was recreated by the Royal Society of Chemistry in a tasting almost 150 years (...) They named it "the country's most economical lunch", offering £200 to whoever could create a cheaper meal. Due to an overabundance of submissions, the offer was closed 7 days later and the £200 given to a randomly selected entrant.
- perl4ever 6y agoThis is more familiar to me: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk_toast https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk_toast Not familiar like I've had it, but I saw it in an old cookbook long ago. And apparently the term "milquetoast" was indeed inspired by it.
