All this speculation about a lab leak is driven by (a) blatant sinophobia driven by the political right, out of habi t and to shift responsibility. (The Uiguhr genocide is real so go hate China for that,instead)
And, (b), the inability of people to understand that it’s not „oh what a coincidence“ that the lab happens to be in that city.
It’s a relatively young metropolitan area encroaching on a temperate, humid forest. It’s the closest wild animals and humans mix, anywhere on earth, and has long been known as a rich reservoir for, among others, Coronaviruses.

Wuhan Institute of Virology published research on Bat virus genetically engineered for human lethality before the outbreak. Lab leak hypothesis has more evidence than natural origin hypothesis.
- AndrewBissell 6y agoWIV had Pentagon funding and involvement from American gain-of-function researchers as well so it's hardly a matter of it being solely China's fault.
