The self regulation argument is ALWAYS bullshit. If a company loses business by self regulating then a competitor may come a long and eat their lunch. We shouldn’t expect it, and shouldn’t be disappointed when it doesn’t happen. This is what the public (government) should be responsible for. That way regulation is uniform (at least one can hope) across the industry.
