It's a nice thought, but "the original" of nearly all (current) digital goods is a meaningless concept when all copies are identical.
I can see this sort of thing being meaningful for some of the specific things you mention (virtual property and the like), but all I currently see is a gold rush to tie digital assets to NFTs before the feeding frenzy is over. I'm seeing people tying art assets they didn't even create to NFTs and calling those "original" which only adds value for the creator of the NFT instead of the asset itself.
Congrats to Beeple for being able to cash out something he was otherwise doing for free anyway, though. I hope any artist doing similar has similar results.
- scsilver 6y agoIts not meaningless if you have legal rights to it. NFT's are just an accessible way of justifying rights of some sort. I'd rather use an NFT than iLok or something.
