Heavy use of emoji is a great way to make me stop reading. I don't parse images super well - icon buttons in applications slow me down a lot, too. Mentally trying to reconstruct meaning from icons might be a fun recreation, but it is a high-load, annoying waste of time for me when we just need to convey some info.
