Disney+ pulls ‘Dumbo,’ ‘Peter Pan’ other films from children’s profiles
- LeoPanthera 6y agoMisleading headline. It means: These films are no longer viewable if your account indicates that you are under 7 years old. Older viewers can still watch them with an attached warning.
- miffe 6y agoThe website is blocked in europe so I can't read it. Why are these movies blocked for children?
- derekp7 6y ago"Disney+ has removed several movies, including “Dumbo,” “Peter Pan,” “The Aristocats” and “Swiss Family Robinson” from children’s profiles on its service over negative depictions and stereotypes." Edit: further reading of the article gives details for each film. For Dumbo, it is the scene with the crows doing a minstrel show (with the leader's name being "Jim Crow"). Peter Pan has simplified/stereotypical (inaccurate) portrayal of Native people. The Siamese Cat is the issue in The Aristocats. So they made the decision to not edit the films, but have the warning screen and remove the shows from the 7 & under profiles.
- miffe 6y agoThanks!
- airhead969 6y agoAre we in Fahrenheit 451 or THX 1138? It seems like everything is being "canceled" to avoid offending some petulant whiners with their revisionist nitpicking.
