I got a new macbook pro for a new job. I had to use hdmi since I didn't have a usb-c to displayport adapter. I wanted to check the refresh rate. You have to hold 'option' when you click one of the radio buttons, and then you have to click a check box with some label about 'low resolution modes' to see the refresh rate option.
Litterally impossible to do without googling.
