Trader gets painted stones instead of $36m of copper
- aurizon 6y agoJust a matter of time. Freight fakery is millenia old. The online lack of hands on verification allowed copper painted blocks molded to the shape of the ingots to fool non-personal inspections. I think they could use a dense heavy metal mineral/clay to reach the correct weight = fool weight as well as video views. Third party container inspections will come into being. It may be possible to use X-rays to assess the ingot conformability - to avoid pulling them all out. That said, copper is so dense that ingots alone only fill about 2/3rds? of the max permitted weight/container, so a human monkeyman can run across the top and sample or tap the ingots with a test hammer = slows the system and addes to cost as an area for this will have to be laid out - or sample and seal at the founder - but these guys already used faked seals - which might be how they fooled them in the first place. Another way is "payment withheld in transit" where payment is released after mutual destination inspection at destinations - again more delay ($$) and time($$) wasted...
