I think that’s of valid concern. Removing users from the immediacy of a chat into a comment section could be jarring. Facebook seems to have bridged that gap by adding “... is Typing” directly to comments sections, to make them feel more alive. A hacked together proof of concept would be fantastic. I’ve used Matrix/Element, so it’s not completely unfamiliar territory.
