Show HN: BossBot – Auto-remove email reply clutter from GitHub Issues comments
- bredren 6y agoBuilt this because a colleague was replying to issue comments using Outlook. Github doesn't collapse email replies unless they use the standard format. Gmail replies to issue comments also add unnecessary clutter to issues, if you like to run a tight ship and have email-heavy users in your project, this action is for you.
- JNRowe 6y agoHaving long resorted to only reading issues in my MUA because t-prot¹ can fix some of the awfulness, I like this. [Crosses fingers to get buy-in from stakeholders to enable it in shared projects.] ¹ http://www.escape.de/~tolot/mutt/ http://www.escape.de/~tolot/mutt/
- bredren 6y agoI’m not familiar with an MUA. Hopefully this action is light weight enough for your teams. Additional regex patterns and behavior could be added, so if you see something from mutt or elsewhere that would improve Bossbot, please add an issue.
- JNRowe 6y agoSorry for the confusion, mutt is a MUA¹. It is too easy to assume people have the same acronym background :/ I'm surprised your post didn't get more traction, the general idea fixes a pain point I've heard people complain about frequently. ¹ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mail_user_agent https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mail_user_agent
- bredren 6y agoAh, thank you for clarifying. I've been emailing with clients since Eudora and Trumpet, then Pine in college but did not recognize MUA. Maybe it will get picked up this time around, maybe it won't. That's okay. I'm happy about this release and perhaps it can grow to be something more.
