Polymer cables could replace Thunderbolt and USB, deliver more than twice speed
- throwaway81523 6y agoNoooo... not more USB connectors, pleeease. We are still using the same AA batteries and (in the US) 120VAC plugs as in my grandma's time. Why can't a "universal" serial interconnect hold still for even a single hardware generation? Whose idea was it to put ultra high bandwidth video ports and slow devices like keyboards and mice on the same connector anyway? The slow stuff should not need chips in the cables.
- gumby 6y agoIt could still have a Type C connector and connect electrically to your computer. Thunderbolt started that way when it was called LightPeak. The article even talks about the transducers. You'd still need copper if you wanted to carry power.
- throwaway81523 6y agoNo, not more adapters pleeeeease....
- gumby 6y agoThis would be standard Type c.
- gumby 6y agoWow, Jack Holloway is a smart guy. That suggests that this is plausible.
