Why doesn't management create more incentives to build products/services that last? Pay a "maintenance bonus" to make in someone's financial interest to maintain and improve existing projects.
- spinningslate 6y agoBecause, as pointed out elsewhere in the discussion, management doesn't care. Ads is so much bigger than everything else - certainly Google Pay - that virtually nothing else even registers on the periphery. Throw in cross-team Not Invented Here syndrome and a desire for promotion and you have the perfect recipe for a regular groundhog day of ephemeral products that arrive in a dazzle and disappear when the wind changes.
