Finally someone mentions TSMC, which is probably the most important thing for US, and TSMC is "moving" to US.
- outsomnia 6y agoTSMC is important, but it is opening a single site with 2% of its existing, mainly Taiwan-based capacity in the US. TSMC total capacity in 2019 was 12 million 12-inch wafer starts https://www.tsmc.com/english/dedicatedFoundry/manufacturing/fab_capacity https://www.tsmc.com/english/dedicatedFoundry/manufacturing/... The new fab in Austin only has capacity for 240K (presumably 12 inch) wafers/yr, or 2% of TSMC total capacity.
