You are welcome to explain the Abstract Factory every time you talk about it.
I prefer to just refer to the well known name of the pattern.
- neonological 6y agoYou completely missed the point kitkat. Abstract Factory is valid English vocabulary. The point is it's just a programming technique / trick. My main issue is that the word "Design pattern" inflates what these things actually are. The jargon is nuts. Design patterns isn't an academic field of study it's just miscellaneous programming tricks and common practices. Don't raise it to a higher level than what these things actually are. Not to mention pretentious names like "strategy pattern" or "iterator pattern" don't really help.
- AmpsterMan 6y agoI'm having a hard time understanding you here. Or rather, the destinction you are trying to make. Do you prefer more verb oriented-ness? I.e. "just iterate through the list" rather than "Implement the Iterator design pattern"
- neonological 6y agoIterator is just one aspect of the problem don't get focused on that. The overall issue is that these are all just programming tricks and techniques and the movement to call these things "design patterns" is inflating the academic worth of these tricks. Additionally these tricks aren't really taught in academia because that's just what they all are, informal tricks. It's like calling the pseudo scientific doctors that work on your spine "chiropractors." The word "chiropractor" inflates the legitimacy of what they actually do when in reality it's part of non-scientific and non-formal medicine.
