If even SWITZERLAND votes for socialism : congrats, capitalism, you've played yourself
- sparkling 6y agouhm, what?
- Erlich_Bachman 6y agoNot sure if it is helpful to reduce every issue to a one-dimensional scale of capitalism/socialism. Particularly this specific issue is about privacy culture, corruptability of big tech, government and use of technologies, surveillance, etc... There are so many more societal and just plain epistemological axis than just socialism/capitalism.
- ILikeBikes 6y agoThat can also be read on the scale of "privatize anything because the state should just make 'laws'"/"have a public sector to offer basic services to citizens", that is a debate in Europe
- ILikeBikes 6y agoAnd the results are pretty similar to the 2018 vote on cancelling their public broadcaster, which also highlighted questions of corruptibility of big companies, but was not around privacy, technology, or surveillance. https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/politics/vote-march-4--2018_attack-on-public-broadcast-licence-fee-set-to-fail/43935166 https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/politics/vote-march-4--2018_att...
- paddim8 6y agoIn what way is this a vote for socialism?
- ILikeBikes 6y agoThey don't trust private companies, and they'd rather have their government to manage their IDs. As explained in the article.
- dang 6y agoPlease don't post generic comments and/or ideological flamebait to HN. It leads to generic threads and/or ideological flamewars, which we're trying to avoid because they're tedious and turn nasty. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&sort=byDate&type=comment&query=generic%20discussion%20by:dang https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&sor... https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&sort=byDate&type=comment&query=generic%20ideolog%20by:dang https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&sor...
- ILikeBikes 6y agooh ok, professionals have standards my bad ! I will elaborate and be "more thoughtful and substantive" as written in the guidelines, next time I didn't know where to place the cursor, since the issue was inherently politic and not about technology, as the article states But this article deserved political comments, nonetheless
- dang 6y agoPolitical comments are ok if they're thoughtful and substantive (https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&sort=byDate&type=comment&query=political%20overlap%20by:dang https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&so...). When they turn shallow and low-information, they become flamebait. We're trying to avoid that, and we're especially trying to avoid the repetitive battles they usually escalate into.
