This is so cool to see. I don't know whether it would generalize more broadly, but I'd love to fundamentally believe that given a little slack, most people will find other ways to improve their lives (by finding more or better work), as opposed to the "people are lazy and if you give them free things they'll just get more lazy" narrative. Sometimes people just need a financial or even psychological nudge to get out of a trap.
