One awesome thing that took me a couple of rebuild-my-config cycles to discover is that you can put your configuration elisp in Org files (wrapped as code blocks) then use org-babel to load them. Then comprehensively documenting the config is trivial and your init.el is just a bootstrapper for the Org files.
