I have a separate panel out here, branched off of the house. I think it has two 20amp breakers and space for another.
I have a portable dual-hose A/C unit that draws in outside air and also exhausts outside. I'm able to keep it around 70 without it running all the time. Texas summer will be the real test though.
- croutonwagon 6y agoYeah I’ve been looking at upgrades. I’m working in what is basically a “finished” garage. Not well insulated (but is insulated), windows are leftovers. No finished flooring, just a collection of rugs no longer in the main living space. So it’s the rug room that doubles as storage. I’m using a window unit, which is very loud, sometimes even audible on a conference call. Been looking at a mini split for a while. It does keep it cool. Though the florida bugs sometimes get in through the AC itself.
- aarondf 6y agoThis is the unit I ended up going with: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08DYDH3N5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08DYDH3N5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b... It works great. Cheaper than a mini-split, but certainly not cheap!
- croutonwagon 6y agoNice. I haven’t tried that one. I did have a portable for a time, though not a dual hose. My current one allow schedules and such. I actually went full window unit because of the noise. My theory was motor outside noise < motor inside noise. In reality it’s not terribly discernible. And these units lasted me 3 years before really starting to show their wear in the florida heat and constant running. Startup draw can be noticeable now. Once this one bites it, I’m probably going to go mini split.
