I became a Software Engineer (my childhood dream) by reading edw519 (https://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=edw519 https://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=edw519) comments and free PDF book. He wrote that you don't need a university degree to start in the field, so I jumped out of bed and started learning Python. Now 8 years later I'm a Senior Software Engineer. I even was in a CTO position once, which didn't work out, because I arrived too late and the startup would have gone bankrupt anyway, but I enjoyed that the most. I learned a lot about Python and generic programming related things from the articles posted here. I read 1 article/day on average for years now.
