This matches what I tell every business school student who wants to interview me as a business owner. The system is one giant slot machine, the only difference is instead of putting money into it, you have to put effort. You can keep pulling the lever as much as you like. Sometimes, you hit on just the right thing and you will hit the jackpot. Other times, you'll be in a dry spell. But the key thing is, you can keep pulling the lever and the machine statistically will eventually pay out. --- Or as my father told me (and yes I learned many years later it was a quote from Wayne Gretzky's father): "You miss every shot you don't take."
