The agile idea is not bad and some ideas from scrum are not bad, but I have never seen an environment where the dev team thought daily (sometimes twice...) standups were a great idea. That could be my experience of course, but I'm almost always an outsider (coming into teams to help them implement our products) and asking around; in most places I get to, standups are seen as a show off session and so, automatically, as a 'punch the weaklings in the face' session. Fill up the time with rattling off blockers (aka blaming others) and allow for just enough success for the bosses to see you are a 1000x'er. Communication is important (vitally so), just the format is entirely wrong imho.
