Agile/scrum is not about software development. It's about business agility, managing uncertainty, and being able to adopt what you're doing to new information and new market situations.
You can't design, review and test new product designs in a word document. You need to be able to iterate, learn, adopt. PDCA: Plan, Do, Check, Act.
Scrum is just a framework that implements this. Main benefit for the business is that you don't have long periods where you can't change where you're going. And if you change your mind, you don't want to have to throw away a lot of useless investment. So you only plan short sprints, you deliver quickly, generate ROI, and improve your plan where you're heading.
Just a way to manage uncertainty.
