Perhaps it’s no coincidence both examples involve the navigation system? Makes it easier to flash an alert and return the driver’s attention to the road.

  I would have thought some sort of display on or in the windscreen, but maybe that is too distracting and causes panic?

    Sound is way better, especially if you aren't already looking out the windscreen.
