I remember a Ray Bradbury story in elementary school I read. Don’t remember the short story title, but it was an automated house that did all its chores under the reader’s assumption all the automation was happening while the owners were out at work or running errands. Turns out that all the humans were wiped out by an atomic bomb as I remember the story describing irradiated shadows/outlines of people on the side of the house. Your comment reminded me of that story.
