We're always just 5 years from away from L5. Maybe soon - honda just released an L3 car in limited production for Japan.

- mrzimmerman 6y agoSo true. I mean, I’ve worked at an autonomous startup and the problem with the timelines stated are the same as most tech companies. Management reports exciting but unrealistic timelines to investors and the media for (unfortunately) practice business purposes that are often rewarded with hype and funding. Meanwhile the engineering problems that need to be either solved or discovered (and then solved) don’t go away and the timeline always seems longer than we constantly hear about. Anyway, not an uncommon pattern but frustrating when we’re out here as consumers wanting to nap in the car on our drive to visit our extended family.
- airstrike 6y agoThat's interesting. One transaction not mentioned in the article was Japan's Dynamic Map Platform acquisition of Ushr Inc. in 2019. Apparently DMP had created something called Pro Pilot which powered Nissan's ADAS capabilities⁰ and it seems like the Honda Legend is using a version of it, according to at least one article¹ (Disclaimer: I was a financial advisor to Ushr on their sale to DMP) –––––––––– 0. https://www.sip-adus.go.jp/evt/workshop2019/file/DM/dm03/DM03_1113.pdf https://www.sip-adus.go.jp/evt/workshop2019/file/DM/dm03/DM0... 1. https://techcrunch.com/2020/11/11/honda-to-mass-produce-level-3-autonomous-cars-by-march/ https://techcrunch.com/2020/11/11/honda-to-mass-produce-leve...
